As a result of the Government's decision to re-prioritise funding for Adult & Community Education (ACE) from the end of 2009, community education as we know it in the Counties area will change. Waiuku College, Pukekohe High School and Rosehill College will no longer receive the funding from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) that they have used in previous years to run community education programmes. Sadly the Community Education programme at Waiuku College will be closed at the end of this term.

Adult & Community Education in our area will continue in 2010 under the banner of Counties Area Community Education (CACE). This new programme will run out of Pukekohe High School. It will be a combination of classes, tutorials etc being run throughout the Counties area, and will include Rosehill College, Papakura, Waiuku, Pukekohe High School and various community groups in the Franklin and Papakura districts. The Coordinator will be Daryl Wood, who is currently the ACE Coordinator at Pukekohe High School.

CACE will receive funding from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) to run classes in Te Reo, Numeracy, Literacy, ESOL and Sign Language. Other classes will be offered but the fees will rise as they have to cover tutor, room rental and administration costs. For most classes the fee will be $90 for an 8 week programme, with a minimum of 10 learners.

Please visit the CACE website for details of classes and courses on offer, www.cace.org.nz
